Las Vegas pt 3 - Seven Magic Mountains & Fremont St/Downtown Vegas

In this blog, we'll be talking about the Seven Magic Mountains, The Las Vegas Sign, Freemont St., The Container Park in Downtown Las Vegas and swimming with the sharks at The Golden Nugget. 🦈

When on vacation, I do a 180 and become a morning person. There's so much to see & do! We were awake early so we decided to go for a drive at sunrise.

We started with a drive down the Las Vegas Strip which is a lot less busy @ 6 am. Then, stopped for a selfie at the iconic Welcome to Las Vegas Sign for pics. It's been there since 1959 and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

We then made our way to Seven Magic Mountains. This is a large-scale desert artwork installation and it's a 20-25 min drive South of the Strip, towards the Mojave National Preserve. You need a car to get there or go as part of a tour.

The installation opened in May 2016 & was originally scheduled to be on view for two years. Due to its success, it remains open. Hopefully, for many more years. It was stunning!

'Comprised of seven towers of colourful, stacked boulders standing more than thirty feet high, Seven Magic Mountains is situated within the Ivanpah Valley adjacent to Sheep Mountain and the McCullough, Bird Spring, and Goodsprings ranges of mountains. A creative expression of human presence in the desert, ... punctuates the Mojave with a poetic burst of form and colour.'

❗️TIP: bring a sweater if visiting in the morning. It was windy and a bit cool.

We then headed to Downtown Las Vegas which is approx. 5 miles N of the Strip. There are museums, restaurants (best deals in Vegas), attractions, casinos, and shopping. The most famous attraction is Freemont St.

Until the creation of the large hotels and casinos on The Strip, Freemont Street was the center of Las Vegas and where the famous neon-lit casinos such as Golden Nugget appeared in dozens of films.

We ate at the infamous Heart Attack Grill - check that out in Las Vegas Pt 2

Freemont St Experience: Zip-Line, Free Nightly Live Music Shows & Light Show

Light Show - the projection surface is currently the largest screen in the world, spanning 1,500 feet in length (that's the size of five football fields). The screen contains 49.3 million synchronized LED lamps. There is something on the screen most of the time, but make sure to visit during the evening when there is a show on the hour, every hour between 6 pm & 2 am, lasting about 6 mins. The shows feature the hits of Steve Aoki, The Chainsmokers, The Killers, Imagine Dragons, Linkin Park, Shakira and Tiesto. schedule

Free Concert Series - Apr-Nov - check out X Ambassadors, Hoobastank, Simple Plan, etc. All concerts are presented for free!

The Container Park is 2 blocks East of Fremont St @ E. Fremont St & S. 7th St.

an open-air shopping center filled with boutique retail shops, unique restaurants, and live entertainment for the whole family.
